Resumen

O uso de pesticidas na agricultura é questão de saúde pública no Brasil e no mundo. Neste contexto, a hipótese deste artigo é que as megafusões e a alta concentração do mercado de insumos consolidaram estratégia lastreada no negócio de sementes quimicamente dependentes, que são de alto risco para a saúde humana e para o ambiente. Neste sentido, o artigo pretende numa primeira chave investigar empiricamente as práticas no mercado de insumos agrícolas e os impactos destas práticas para os direitos humanos e sustentabilidade e sua relação com as megafusões, utilizando para tanto metodologias da sociologia econômica. A partir dos achados empíricos o artigo avalia então a adequação - dadas as suas peculiaridades – de alguns instrumentos mandatórios para empresas e direitos humanos - com foco nas Diretrizes da OCDE para Empresas Multinacionais sobre Conduta Empresarial Responsável e nos Princípios orientadores das Nações Unidas - para regular as práticas neste mercado. Trata-se de pesquisa inter/multidisciplinar que agrega à investigação normativa, a pesquisa empírica, utilizando conceitos e métodos da sociologia econômica, tendo como objeto as práticas corporativas neste mercado. Como resultado, a pesquisa aponta para insuficiências tanto para proibir o uso de pesticidas na agricultura, garantindo a alimentação adequada e a sustentabilidade ambiental, como por não considerarem as megafusões como prática de alto risco para os direitos humanos e a sustentabilidade.
