The training of social educators is one of the central issues in the brazilian educational context. Based on this statement, this article has the general objective of discussing the specific contribution of Social Pedagogy to the training of social educators based on Xesús Jares' concept of coexistence. This material provides a reflection on the organization of the field of Social Pedagogy, the history and the importance, as a basis for a more depth reflection on non-school educational practices (non-formal and informal); the confrontations present in the training of social educators in the brazilian context; and the brief development of the concept of coexistence, based on Xesús Jares, as a specific reflection of Social Pedagogy. As its main inference, the article defines the concept of expanded teaching as an expression of the intervention of Social Pedagogy within the daily training of social educators. In the same way, it presents the elements of coexistence potentializes of the necessary changes in the organization of curriculum that direct the training processes of social educators and, consequently, socio-educational practices with socially vulnerable groups.
