SCHOOL EDUCATION IN TIMES OF PANDEMIC

DISCOURSES IN THE SOCIAL NETWORKS

Authors

Abstract

The article is interested in the discourses about school education that circulated through social media during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period of social isolation and suspension of physical activities in schools. The research focuses on the arguments used in favor of returning to face-to-face classes during the pandemic period. It is understood that this period presented discourses about school education from what is being talked about in society, so it is important to know the conditions of emergence of these discourses. From the perspective of Michel Foucault, the goal is to highlight the meanings that were present in certain discourses about education, during the pandemic. As methodology, a netnography will be carried out in the social network Instagram, from six profiles managed by different segments. Among the research results, the idea of the school as an essential service stands out. In this discourse, the association of school education to the strict function of social protection of children and adolescents appears as regularity, an argument that highlights the neoliberal sense that is part of what is said, or not, about school education in contemporary times.
