This research aims to investigate, from the perspective of teachers of the 1st year of high school in a state school in Rio Grande do Sul, what are the challenges for implementing the new high school curriculum. Methodologically, this is basic research with a qualitative approach developed through a case study. As a data collection instrument, a structured questionnaire was used, divided into two blocks, the first with the profile of the respondents and the second composed of open questions about the perception of teachers in relation to the new High School. Data reading followed the content analysis technique. As a result, it was identified that the main challenges faced by the respondents were the lack of didactic material, the lack of training or adequate preparation for the new High School, difficulty in deepening the contents due to the lack of basic knowledge of the students, working with interdisciplinarity in classroom and adapt the contents to the technologies and learning methods of students affected by the pandemic. It is concluded that this new teaching model lacks adaptation to the real needs of both students and teachers. The aspects identified in this study that most require attention are the availability of adequate training for teachers and satisfactory didactic support material, as they are identified as the main challenges faced.
