PERMANENCE OF QUILOMBOLA STUDENTS IN A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The present study proposes to investigate the permanence of quilombola students from the Barro Preto community, located in the municipality of Jequié - Bahia, at the State University of Southwest Bahia – UESB. For this, a qualitative approach was chosen from a multi-referential perspective, through a semi-structured questionnaire, with a view to the perspectives and challenges encountered in the current socioeconomic, academic, and ethnic-racial context. The research will be delimited with students from the Quilombola Barro Preto community, in the municipality of Jequié. The data were analyzed through a theoretical reflection on the field of identity, culture, ethnic-racial in the context of the permanence of these students at that university during the Covid-19 pandemic, having as theoretical support Gomes (2003), Nascimento (1980), Nascimento (1985) and Oliveira (2012). After analyzing the data, it is inferred that public policies aimed at the permanence of such students in the UESB are essential for the inclusion of this ethnic group in the academic space, for this, it is necessary that these policies follow the current demands of society.
