The Racial Equality Statute (EIR) ratified the obligation to include in the public and private education network the study of the general history of Africa and of the Brazilian black population. This legislation, from 2010, has filled a gap in the previous legislation, by imposing on the Executive Branch the obligation to foster the initial and continued training of teachers and to ensure the development of didactic material consistent with the undertaking. Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze the collection of history textbooks for the final grades of elementary school II adopted in the municipal system of Uberaba (MG), to verify if and how the provisions of the EIR were incorporated. This is a bibliographic and documentary research developed in a qualitative approach, through which it was verified that the mismatch between texts and images made the material in question contribute little to the necessary re-signification of the participation of black people in the construction of the country.
