Abstract

The Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has deeply changed the educational processes worldwide, with the adoption of hybrid learning systems and remote teaching tools by traditional classroom courses. In this paper, we present a series of reflections on distance education and remote learning in times of pandemic, demonstrating the contribution of extension initiatives to teaching and scientific dissemination based on the experience report of the “Canal Descomplicado” (YouTube). Initially, we present a conceptual discussion on distance education and remote teaching from a historical perspective, focused on changes in the role of the teacher and in the teaching and learning environments stimulated by the advancement of digital information and communication technologies and the new context epidemiological profile of societies. In addition, we demonstrate how these technologies, widely used in distance education and in remote learning initiatives, have been providing new opportunities and challenges for scientific dissemination in Brazil. Finally, we reflected on the implementation process of the Uncomplicated Canal project, as well as its main contributions to teaching scientific dissemination in times of pandemic.
