Abstract

In this article, we analyze the process of building policies aimed at cultural diversity in the Brazilian educational system. It seems useful to rethink diversity in the school context in the light of the potential, challenges, obstacles that every educator faces and needs to develop in order to carry out educational processes that consider and value cultural differences. To enable a reflection on the Brazilian ethnocultural scenario, we seek to evoke the historical process that culminated in unresolved inequalities in relation to the indigenous and black population; we discussed policies aimed at differences, aimed at groups that have remained subordinate since the colonial period; and, we point out some possible ways of overcoming unresolved inequalities, towards paradigm shifts regarding the management and enhancement of ethnocultural diversity in the Brazilian educational system.
