"Vivir como un local": turistificación del espacio urbano en portugal, alojamiento local y respuesta de las políticas públicas

La intensificación de la actividad turística en Portugal fue el resultado de un compromiso del gobierno para superar la crisis económica y financiera que azotó a Portugal a partir de 2010. Esta intensificación se reflejó principalmente en áreas urbanas donde antes no había especialización turística, siendo los casos de las áreas metropolitanas de Lisboa y Oporto los más destacados. En términos de políticas públicas, una de las medidas que resultaron de este marco fue la flexibilización del mercado de alquiler, a través de alquileres a corto plazo para promover el alojamiento local a turistas en Portugal. Al mismo tiempo, las tendencias internacionales señalaron una demanda turística muy orientada hacia el turismo urbano y, en particular, hacia el paradigma “live like a local”. La combinación de estos dos factores resultó en una explosión en la oferta y demanda de alojamiento local en Portugal, con consecuencias directas y profundas para los tejidos urbanos y las poblaciones. Centrándose en el análisis de la evolución del alojamiento local en Portugal, en la última década, este artículo explora la contribución de este fenómeno a la turistificación del espacio urbano, junto con los efectos sociales negativos resultantes de este proceso, a través del análisis del alojamiento local y de las políticas públicas que le han sido dirigidas.
