Description as narrative resource in Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy

Abstract

The presente research aims to analyse the novel Blood Meridian or The Evening Redness in the West, by the U.S. writer Cormac McCarthy. The general objective of this article is to analyze how the author uses the description as a narration resource. Therefore, theoretical discussions about description in Literature and about the role of the narration in McCarthy’s novel are necessary for a better understanding of narratological subjectivity in the characterization of the spaces and characters during the narrative.

Mestre em Letras: Estudos Literários, pela Universidade Federal do Amazonas. Professor no curso de Letras da Universidade Paulista (UNIP). Entre suas publicações acadêmicas, destacam-se: a organização do livro Metodologia da pesquisa em Estudos Literários II (EDUA, 2022) e os artigos “O Oeste multiétnico e a estética da violência em Meridiano de sangue, de Cormac McCarthy” (Palimpsesto, 2022) e “There Will Be Blood: uma análise da violência em Meridiano de sangue, de Cormac McCarthy” (Porto das Letras, 2021).
