Abstract

The novel Trapo, by Christovão Tezza, contains two characters who are writers, the young Paulo, better known as Trapo, who dreams of being an acclaimed writer by critics, and a retired professor of literature Manuel, who writes a novel about the history of Paulo. In the books of these characters-writers, we can notice that there are questions or reflections on the writing and production of the fictional text, as well as about the condition of the writer, thus underlining the operating strategies and construction of the narrative. Based on these notes, this work intends to analyze the metafictional procedures which are present in the novel Trapo, based mainly on the theory of Linda Hutcheon (1984). In the light of the theoretical assumptions about metafiction, we seek to understand how the questions related to the mimesis of process and to the game of authorships are constituted in the work.
