This article proposes a dialogue between different works by Jane Austen and Virginia Woolf in order to discuss the issue of female literary tradition and its subsequent erasure by critics, and also the development of Austen's unique writing style that brings her close to Woolf. Besides, it questions the traditional perspective that sees the two authors as apolitical, demonstrating that both intertwine everyday situations with stances about their historical and political context, especially about war and women’s role in society.
