Abstract

The authors present a case of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in a five years old child, as a complicating factor after surgery of septic arthritis of the hips. The patient´s case went on with edema acute of lung, besides bronchi spasm and larynx spasm, resulting in respiratory insufficience. The echocardiography showed decreasing of cardiac debit and increasing of ventricle´s diameter. The chest radiography demostrated a low transparency pulmonary whit infiltrate peri to hilar, that is, ARDS. The indicated treatment was ventilatory strategy, pulmonary surfactant and agressive control of pulmonary hypertension with nitric oxide terapy and agents diurect admnistration. He left hospital with follow up by pediatric pulmonologist and then he was in good health.
