Abstract

ABSTRACT

Aim: To investigate relation between religious practice, psychiatric symptoms (Depression, Anxiety) and alcoholic Consumption in pregnant women users of Brazilian public health system in Juiz de Fora.

Methods: This is a transversal study, involving 204 pregnants of Juiz de Fora. The data was collected in pregnants carrier centers of the city, using a Sociodemographic questionnaire, that relateds to the religious practice and filiation of the pregnant, the Questionnaire of Adulthood Psychiatric Morbidity (QMPA) and Alcoohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT).

Results: The majority of the pregnants practiced the religion of their belief (62,3%). In AUDIT we find an average punctuation of 1,1 for the practitioners and 1,9 for the not practitioners. The average of the practitioners in depression subescale was of 1,6 and of 2,1 between the not practicing ones. In alcoholism and anxiety subescales and in the general punctuation of QMPA, it had difference between the averages of practitioners and not practitioners, however this was not statistically significant

Conclusions: It was observed in our study, that the practitioners had presented lower averages in punctuation of psychiatric symptoms and alcohol use in comparison to the not practicing ones.
