AN ANALYSIS OF THE USE OF THE QUIZIZZ PLATFORM IN TEACHING THE SIMPLE PAST

Abstract

This study evaluated the use of the Quizizz platform as a pedagogical tool for teaching the simple past in English, focusing on the engagement and learning outcomes of 30 high school students from a public school in Cambé, Paraná. The research combined bibliographical, field, and analytical methods and involved two quizzes administered by the teacher. Quizizz was selected for its institutional accessibility, participants’ familiarity, and pedagogical potential widely recognized in academic literature. The results demonstrated that gamified activities mediated by Quizizz fostered high student participation, with completion rates of 100% for the first quiz and 96.7% for the second. The platform provided immediate evaluations, dynamic rankings, and interactive activities that stimulated learning. Students showed proficiency in regular verb rules but encountered significant challenges with irregular verbs. These findings highlight the importance of contextualized and integrated practices. The analyzed data suggest that Quizizz is an effective tool for engaging students and supporting the consolidation of learning. However, it is recommended to complement its use with strategies that promote integrated practice of linguistic skills and greater exposure to complex grammatical structures, enhancing teaching effectiveness.
