Abstract

The present article consists in the presentation of the results referents to the research entitled “The importance of knowledge in first aid for dance professionals.” The objective of this study sought to understand the importance of knowledge in First Aid (FA), injury prevention and accidents, for teachers and students of dance courses. For data collection was applied a semi-structured online questionnaire, using Google Forms, to undergraduates and professors in dance courses at Federal, State and Private University. With the return of 155 forms, the data were analyzed in a way quantitative. As for the results, the main causes of accidents and injuries were identified, as well as actions for the prevention and occurrence of accidents, such as first aid in dance classes. It identified a low index of participants who did a course or discipline of FA beyond the curriculum even though most believe that knowledge in FA is important for dancers, choreographers and other dance professionals. Were analyzed probable causes of injuries and accidents in dance, which mostly are linked to an excessive training load and lack of body and movement consciousness, as well as bad eating habits and lack of hydration by dancers, causing twist in the lower limbs and fainting which are injuries/accidents most mentioned by the participants. So, it is inferred the need for the disciplines of dance courses to offer contents in the curriculum that can provide information on injuries prevention and emergency service in dance classes.
