Now showing: Black performing arts in the educational scene! This article seeks to delve into educational resonances from what is conceptually presented as “afrographia”, exploring the cultural field of Black performing arts. Initially, the work focuses on presenting the principles of education in ethnic-racial relations and the teaching of African and Afro-Brazilian history and culture, intending to find semantics in both bodies and corpora of Black performing arts, speculating on traces of African historical and cultural legacy in Brazil. In the second part, it discusses the insurgent tessiture that tint the means of how to perceive the world, specifically in arts and education. In this study, we acknowledge the brawniness of Black performing arts beyond the arts field, and consider the theater, the dance, and the performance art through perspectives that shape an Afro-referenced form of education. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s start the show, I mean, the class!
