This work aimed to provide an overview of the influence of socio-discursive interactionism (SDI) in applied research on language teaching in Brazil and the (in)understandings of this theory through the analysis of dissertations developed in the Professional Masters in Letters. Initially, we present the epistemological and didactic programs of the SDI, highlighting how the limits of the theoretical-methodological options of the first one reverted into limits for the second, especially when we place it in the general epistemological framework of language didactics. Then, we collected 102 dissertations available on the websites of the program's units across the country. Data analysis showed that, given the theoretical-methodological limits of the SDI didactic program, many researchers choose to use the method of didactic sequences associated with other linguistic theories and other research methods.
