In the current context of rising reactionary groups, this article brings forth part of the results of a research that investigated how the official curricular documents for Ensino Médio (10th to 12th years of a 12-year education) dealt with gender and women’s history issues. It was observed that in the analyzed material said content was neglected. One possible explanation for this omission is the action of reactionary groups, such as the “Non-partisan Schools” group, in the disputes around curricular provisions. Document analysis was used as research methodology. The theoretical framework draws from gender studies, with emphasis on the fundamentally social, relational, and cultural aspects of differences based on sex. Contributions were also drawn from curriculum studies and history, which grounded the understanding of including women and gender in curricula as a way of challenging the historical knowledge traditionally taught in schools.
