GEORREFERENCED HISTORY AND CATEGORIZATION OF INFORMATION

Abstract

This article presents one of the means by which the Geographic Information System (GIS), in its technological development, meets historical studies, enabling new academic practices with special attention to the spatial development of historical narrative in the course of History. The reunion of the historiographical narrative with space, in the current technological context, enables, among other advantages, the categorization of information from traditional historical sources and the representation in layers of information reproduced in maps or digital figures. The process of building these layers and their analysis becomes a significant opportunity to insert technologies that help the history course classes and their disciplinary framework, focusing on spatial analysis.
