In this work, we propose a translation of the critic essay “Durtal”, written by Paul Valéry, which concerns the homonym novel from J.-K. Huysmans. Originally, Valéry’s text was published in 1898 in the Mercure de France, Parisian petite revue that circulated in Symbolist groups and among literary renewal enthusiasts. First, we offer some reflections about both authors, as well as their proximity. Then, we present a Portuguese translation of the text “Durtal”.
