A etnomodelagem propõe uma visão holística do conhecimento matemático ao conectar os aspectos culturais (êmicos) e acadêmicos (éticos) da matemática. Assim, a utilização das abordagens êmica e ética possibilita a tradução de situações-problema e fenômenos presentes no cotidiano, que foram desenvolvidos pelos membros de grupos culturais distintos. A abordagem êmica é essencial para a compreensão intuitiva das ideias, procedimentos e práticas matemáticas utilizadas pelos membros desses grupos enquanto a abordagem ética é importante para a comparação entre essas práticas. Assim, esse artigo teórico visa apresentar a abordagem dialógica da etnomodelagem que combina ambas as abordagens êmica e ética, pois busca uma compreensão ampla e abrangente do conhecimento matemático desenvolvido em diferentes culturas no decorrer da história.
