Abstract

This article intends to perform an analysis of the writing process of Marguerite Duras’ first of five notebooks published under the title La douleur. They were all published in 1985 while Duras waited for any news on her husband, Robert Antelme, who was arrested and deported by the germans. It is in our interest to try to comprehend how the writing process of this notebook can not only constitute a testimony to the memory of those days, but can also allow Duras to experience that period without succumbing under its horror and pain.
