Abstract

The present study analyzes O Cacaulista, by Inglês de Souza, focusing on labor relations and their socioeconomic implications, highlighting how land-based, racial, and power disputes operate as the surface of a larger conflict: the struggle for capital and the preservation of privilege. The investigation also incorporates the notion of the disjunctive element, as discussed by Professor Luís Bueno, understanding it as a narrative device that exposes social fractures and functions as a mechanism of economic and symbolic self-affirmation within the plot. In this sense, the study seeks to demonstrate how such tensions structure the narrative and reveal the profound contradictions of the Amazonian society represented by Souza.
