Se Walter Benjamin em The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction discute o fato de que a reprodução mecânica desvaloriza a aura da obra de arte, o que devemos pensar da reprodução mecânica na era da revolução digital e de grandes crises ambientais? Pamela Caughie, refletindo sobre o trabalho de Benjamin, editou o livro Virginia Woolf in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, uma coletânea de ensaios que refletem sobre a aproximação entre Woolf e Walter Benjamin na interface modernidade e tecnologia. O objetivo dessa apresentação é analisar o romance Orlando, observando como a autora lida com a ecologia e tecnologia em seu texto geo/biográfico, tomando a expressão de Elizabeth Waller em sua interpretação do romance. Woolf na grande maioria de seus romances lida com diferentes estações e diferentes climas, bem como demonstra Peter Adkins em seu texto sobre Woolf e o Antropoceno. O embasamento teórico-crítico do trabalho conta com os pressupostos de Peter Adkins, Bonnie Scott e Derek Ryan. Donna Harraway, When Species Meet, também é um texto fundamental para entender as relações entre ecologia e tecnologia no romance woolfiano. A coletânea Virginia Woolf and the Natural World debruça-se sobre o tema principal desse artigo, que é analisar a representação da natureza no romance Orlando buscando as interrelações entre tecnologia e ecologia. Orlando não é o único que está mudando de sexo, mas, sobretudo, a terra, o clima, os animais estão todos sofrendo uma grande transformação ao longo de trezentos anos dessa jornada, assim como podemos perceber as modificações em termos ecológicos e tecnológicos no romance. Assim, a questão é entender como Woolf localiza seu personagem principal em profundo contato com o ambiente, o humano e não-humano e todas as alterações ao seu redor.
