Do Livramento ao Cosme Velho: o Rio de Machado de Assis

Resumen

This essay shows the relationship between literature and urbanism considering the historical and political transformations in Rio de Janeiro from 1839 to 1908. The new map of the city corresponds to a change of mentality and simbolic relations that can be seen in Machado de Assis’ literary works.
