This essay turns to Paul B. Preciado’s engagement with Virginia Woolf’s oeuvre between his chronicle “Orlando on the Road”, written in 2015, and his film Orlando, My Political Biography, released in 2023, with a special interest in tracing how Preciado updates what I understand as Virginia Woolf’s methodology of outsideness: her way of thinking about identity as a point of departure, not of arrival. Thus, surveying different moments of Woolf’s and Preciado’s careers, and following Rosi Braidotti’s cues, this essay argues that intensifying genre allows for the death of gender as human taxonomy.
