Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the phenomenon of audiovisual adaptations of Jane Austen’s work, based on the theories of adaptation and convergence culture, developed respectively by Linda Hutcheon (2013) and Henry Jenkins (2009). Adaptations are understood not as mere copies of the original text, but as intersemiotic and cultural practices that reconfigure narrative, language, and values. Austen’s enduring relevance in contemporary culture is evidenced by the transposition of her novels into film, television, and digital platforms. These retellings are driven both by institutional productions and by fan initiatives, who act as active agents in the recreation and circulation of the texts. This study explores how such adaptations renew interest in Austen, especially among younger audiences, by offering aesthetic and ideological updates to the literary canon. The analysis considers adaptations as cultural products that articulate literary memory, participatory practices, and media mediation.
