Abstract

Literature has played a pivotal role in analyzing gender inequalities throughout history. Virginia Woolf's essay "A Room of One's Own" (1929) deepens our understanding of hierarchical relationships in a patriarchal society and illustrates how women have been portrayed as inferior in literature. Therefore, this study aims to define first-wave feminism and its objectives, explore the concept and operation of patriarchy, analyze key feminist ideas in literature, question the marginalized representation of women, and introduce Judith Butler's concepts of gender and gender identity. Additionally, this research highlights Woolf's innovative narrative techniques that provide a more comprehensive representation of the female experience. It also examines power dynamics and gender inequalities in literature and society, addressing the inclusion of non-heterosexual women in the feminist movement. For this study, the adopted method involves conducting a literature review to establish a foundation for the proposed framework.
