Abstract

This article focuses on the performative work of Rupi Kaur, a prominent feminist poet on social media, focusing specifically on her TED Talk I’m Taking My Body Back (2016). The study is structured around the combination of three key concepts – the presence, the body, and the presence of the body – drawing on a theoretical framework that emphasizes the performative dimension of presence and the multiple signs at play within the act, beyond its literal meaning in dialogue with feminist issues found in Kaur’s poetic work. Thus, the contributions of Grumbrecht (2010), Zumthor (1993, 2018), and Aguilar and Cámara (2017), among others, are taken into consideration throughout the analysis.

Doutoranda do PPG Letras: Estudos Literários da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF); bolsista CAPES. Mestra em Estudos Literários pela UFJF (2022). Licenciada em Letras-Português pela UFJF (2019) e em Letras-Inglês pela mesma instituição (2022). Atualmente desenvolve pesquisa sobre a instapoesia de autoria feminina em Língua Inglesa e a recepção do trabalho precursor de Rupi Kaur por outras Instapoetas.
