Abstract

The multicultural era in which we live urges to review the literary and historiographic canons, among others. In view of this desideratum, this essay materializes itself with the aim of sharing those reviews mentioned above. Therefore, it searches for a reading of the novel Úrsula (1859), by Maria Firmina dos Reis, under feminist and multicultural theoretical assumptions, aiming an enlargement of our view on the feminine productions in the 19th Century, as well as the proper romantic movement among us brazilians. Such enlargement points towards the necessity of inclusion of many literary works and feminine authors whose voices were silenced, and it is up to scholars of our time to undertake the proper rescue and to legate the future generations so that history does not repeat.
