HISTORIOGRAPHICAL METAFICTION IN “A BANCROFT LETTER’’ AND “EL LIBRO PERDIDO DE BORGES”

Abstract

The present paper proposes an analysis of historiographical metafiction, developed in the postmodern theory of Linda Hutcheon (1991), in the short stories "A letter from Bancroft" by the Brazilian writer Milton Hatoum, and "El libro perdido de Borges" by the Argentine author Mempo Giardinelli. Historiographical metafiction does not only talk about fiction or history, but offers the reader a new art form, so the analysis also relies on the contributions of Bernardo (2010), Waugh (1984), Miranda (2010), and Perrone-Moisés (2016).

Wellington Ricardo Fioruci, Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná

Wellington R. Fioruci possui doutorado (2007) em Letras pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP-Assis) na área de Literatura Comparada. Concluiu estágio de pós-doutoramento na UFRGS (2015), com projeto sobre Literatura e Cinema. É professor de literatura no curso de Letras e participa do Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras da UTFPR campus Pato Branco, Faz parte do Grupo de Pesquisa Narrativas Estrangeiras Modernas da Unesp, câmpus de Assis, e do Grupo de Investigação em Identidade(s) e Intermedialidade(s) da Universidade do Minho (Portugal). É líder do Grupo de Pesquisa GELCON da UTFPR - câmpus Pato Branco.
