This paper seeks to reflect over the meanings found in Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The yellow wallpaper (1891), in order to understand the imprisonment of women in social roles. Through this narrative, we can draw parallels with the situations experienced by her as a woman and wife, and by several women in our society, over time we come across one of the practices used by patriarchalism to subjugate and determine female behavior.
