This paper analyzes the concept of “woman” established in the short stories contained in the anthology titled Insubmissas lágrimas de mulheres (2011), by Conceição Evaristo. Based on the assumptions made by the recent feminist debate, this article shows the narratives in question as a strategic conceptual amalgam of difference and identity. As we identify the incorporation of a number of subalternity axis in the anthology we investigate how Evaristo’s writing outlines the idea of a female unity in spite of its plurality.
