The theatrical touch of the Belle Epoque in Rio de Janeiro is intensified by the writing mannerisms typical of Decadentism. Five o 'clock - a book by Elysio de Carvalho dedicated to Paulo Barreto(João do Rio) - should be read as a text that dramatizes texts; thus originating a wide spread debate about the representations of town and literature under the dandy mask.
