Abstract

Medical practice is continually updated with the introduction of new methods of examination, diagnosis, and treatment. As new technologies are introduced, hunry-taking and physical examinations are little valued in medical practice. The objective of this study was to identify the relationship between confidence in the performance of medical diagnosis and the need of additional tests. For data collecting we sent a questionnaire to 200 users of PAM MARECHAL, SUS / Juiz de Fora - MG. Statistical analysis was performed on a quantitative, qualitative, and descriptive form. The results, on the credibility of information given by the doctor in a query, pointed out that 52.5% of respondents rely on the doctor entirely. The reasons that raised more confidence in the patient is were careful listening (67.5%), and the ordering of additional tests (60.5%). These percentages are higher than those related to the reasons as confident questioning (33.0%) and / or office physical examination (33.5%), 55.0% of the individuals interviewed, do not believe the diagnosis without a work up being ordered. As for the possibility of returning when no additional tests, were ordered 76.5% of the people questioned say that would not return, and 91.5% believe that tests are necessary. We conclude that, despite the high degree of confidence in the professional performance, the population perceives the need for additional examinations as a means of confirming medical opinion.
