Abstract

The Escola sem Partido (non-partisan school) Movement was established in 2004 with the aim of defining and curbing alleged ideological indoctrination in schools. This article aims to analyze the rhetorical and argumentative strategies employed by parliamentarians in favor of the Escola sem Partido (non-partisan school) project in defending this proposal. The study adopts a qualitative approach through documentary research. Three videos of the Special Committee

meetings aimed at proposing an opinion on Bill No. 7180/2014 were analyzed. The collected material was subjected to discourse analysis based on the framework of Discursive Social Psychology. In their descriptions, the deputies employed various discursive strategies to legitimize their statements. They argued that leftist indoctrination is present in schools, advocated for neutral and content-focused teaching, and criticized sexual education, claiming it promotes gender ideology. Additionally, they utilized religious and legal discourse to justify the project and framed opponents as a noisy, atheistic, and dishonest minority. The study concludes that the Escola sem Partido (non-partisan school) movement, through an anti-communist and anti-gender narrative and its strong alignment with the conservative fosters discourses that oppose freedom of expression in the school environment, which is broadly guaranteed by the Federal Constitution (CF).
