The Research Group on Education, Museums, Culture and Childhood (GEPEMCI), linked to PUC-Rio, has been investigating educational strategies used in museum spaces, specifically those aimed at children, with the support of CNPq. The perspective adopted is that children are subjects of rights and can therefore attend various spaces in the city, such as museums. The main aim of this text is to present reflections on the relationship between children and museums based on data obtained from institutional research carried out by GEPEMCI. The methodology used in the investigation was the application, in 2019 and 2020, of an online questionnaire sent to 110 museums in the city of Rio de Janeiro registered on the Museus.br platform. Based on the feedback from 64 institutions, we were able to observe the low number of activities offered to early childhood children (0 to 6 years old) and the low frequency of visits by the 0 to 3 age group, when compared to others (4 to 6 years old and 7 to 10 years old). In addition, several museums reported not having objects and spaces suitable for young children. This article aims to contribute to reflections and debate on the relationship between children and museums.
