This article aims to explore the relationship of the Greek novel Aithiopica with Christian ideals, widely disseminated by the Roman Empire at the end of the 4th century CE. The work presents an innovative reading approach that places the opening scene and the stories of the Gospels, more specifically the Passion of Christ, side by side. The intertextual relationship is based on the dramatic aspect of the works compared and on four elements of thematic connections: the sunrise, the aporia, the epiphany and the figure of the stone. The proposal favors an allegorical interpretation, thus approaching the author's contemporary hermeneutic method. The analysis intends to resume the literary criticism debate on the work, thus opening a new reading possibility for the novel.
