Abstract

Author and translator from Chinese, Emily Goedde, while editing the 91st Meridian for the University of Iowa, in 2008, gave space for contributors to explore
the intersections between literary translation and nonfiction. She approached the topic herself in the essay “No Nonfiction: PL2658.E8”, in which she took classic Chinese nonfiction and its absence from translation as a basis to show how China itself was
perceived in literature. We bring Goedde’s study for the first time into Portuguese. A brief interview with the author follows, in which she explains some of the issues raised in her essay.
