The translation of swear words on True Blood's subtitles

This article aims at analyzing how swear words found on the first episode of the American TV series True Blood (1998) were translated into the Brazilian-Portuguese subtitles. A table containing excerpts with swear words in the original language and their translated subtitles is presented, and these translations are analyzed according to Mona Baker’s (1992) translation strategies. After this, a clear the tendency to omit or even neutralize taboo words was observed.
