Keywords:
Moschus, Bocage, Elpino Duriense, translation, Hellenistic PeriodAbstract
The text presents two translations of the poem Éros Drapétēs of the Hellenistic poet Moschus, realized by the neoclassic poets Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage (1765–1805) and Antônio Ribeiro dos Santos (1745-1818). From the investigation of the transposition of the hexametric verses to Portuguese and the analysis of some brief aspects of the poem, it is intended to discuss the translation process and the choices of these translators/poets. At the end, it will be presented two possibilities to translate the poem, and a brief discussion about the flexibility on a poetic translation.
