Abstract

In a time of immense socioeconomic challenges, a seemingly ubiquitous concept manifested itself: entrepreneurialism, along with the entrepreneurial narrative that supports it. What is behind the entrepreneurial narrative in arts and culture? Is it really as empowered as it proclaims? How does it overlap with Portuguese and Brazilian realities of creative work in culture and the arts? What kinds of entrepreneurialism are there? That is what this paper sets out to answer. Firstly, we go through the state of the art to enable a finer analysis of the entrepreneurialism phenomenon through time. Next, we study its impacts in Portugal and Brazil from two paradigmatic case studies: Casa da Xiclet [Xiclet House] in Brazil and Maus Hábitos [Bad Habits] in Portugal.

Key words: creative work; cultural entrepreneurialism; arts; Portugal-Brazil.
