O ensaio emprega o cânone ortodoxo dos discursos filosóficos para investigar a relação entre episteme e techne. Postulados platônicos e aristotélicos são usados para traçar os entendimentos históricos da conexão entre saber e fazer no desenvolvimento e na execução de um ofício. A metáfora da tecelagem - fundamental no discurso platônico - é empregada como fio condutor da discussão; essa metáfora também é empregada para orientar a aplicação da episteme e da techne à produção têxtil, em particular por meio de uma análise estrutural dos tecidos plissados usados por Mariano Fortuny e Issey Miyake.

The objective of this paper is to present the fashion market as a field of work used by many women to become economically independent. We have developed a “map of the fashion market in Rio de Janeiro” using the prosopographic methodology and the Qgis tool to help us with the geographical and social configuration that will be showing in this paper. The period of this research is limited to two decades (1830-1840) as a way of better understanding this field and delimiting the labor, gender, class and race relations present in the universe of fashion work during the period.

The article investigates liturgical clothing as a documentary and museological source in the xxx, highlighting its acquisition, preservation and resignification. Through a museological and historical approach, the process of musealization of the Catholic garments donated to the institution is analyzed, emphasizing their transformation from an object of ritual use to a historical document. The study presents the stages of this process, including research, conservation, documentation and exhibition, as well as the role of these garments in the construction of the city's collective memory. In addition, the analysis highlights the importance of clothing in the museological context, evidencing its communicative and symbolic potential. The current exhibition of the robes is examined in the light of collection policies and curatorial changes, which have broadened the representation of different religions and cultures. The study reinforces the relevance of clothing as an element of historical record and cultural heritage, contributing to the debate on the preservation of materiality in museums.

This article analyzes the visual and conceptual impact of the "Exus Contemporâneos" wing, part of the samba school's storyline “Fala, Majeté: Sete Chaves de Exu”, which led Acadêmicos do Grande Rio to win the 2022 Carnival championship. The research highlights the role of textile prints in carnival costumes as a tool for visual storytelling and cultural re-signification. The work of Antônio Gonzaga and Leonardo Bora is presented as a case study in which design is intertwined with artistic expression, incorporating references from urban art and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s aesthetics. The visual construction of the costume is explored through the lens of cultural hybridity, illustrating how Exu is represented in the arts, fashion, and popular imagination. The analysis of the prints reveals the intentional use of symbols, colors, and textures that interact with the storyline and reinforce its political message, demonstrating how Carnival continuously reinvents itself while remaining a space for resistance, creativity, and identity affirmation.

Clothing must meet the demands and desires of the user, considering their capabilities and
limitations, and one of these needs is comfort, which involves several dimensions. There is a lack of fashion
products accessible to transgender people, specifically trans women and transvestites, who face many
challenges in finding clothes that fit their bodies. This study sought to understand the main difficulties trans
women and transvestites face in relation to clothing. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, with
a qualitative approach. In-depth online interviews were conducted with two trans women, based on a semistructured questionnaire. The results show that fashion needs to expand its clothing offering, making it
more inclusive, since it is fundamental in the expression and affirmation of gender. The clothing industry
needs to welcome these diverse bodies and identities, which deviate from traditional standards, and improve
its models, to encompass aspects related to the comfort/discomfort of trans women and transvestites, thus
reconciling functionality and aesthetics.

Counternormative Aesthetic In Contemporary Fashion Design

This article aims to analyze how fashion design can promote a counter-normative aesthetic to hegemonic notions of gender. The search for a qualitative approach involves as main theoretical references: Butler (1990) referring to the cultural matrix of gender intelligibility, Lauretis (1994) as the approach of gender as a technology capable of guaranteeing normative structures, Moura (2018) with an issue of the Sensitive in contemporary design and Portinari (2017) when discussing the queer agency focused on design. The analysis was based on a documentary research on the fashion creation of the designer Victor Sinistra. In conclusion, it is noted that the tensions arise from the designer's own sensitivity so that his creation breaks with the normalizing notions disseminated in the aesthetics of contemporary fashion design.

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) systems have become an active integral part of the daily reality of part of the world’s population, influenced by their potential and speed of production and response. In this sense, such digital artifacts can produce everything from complete text to realistic images of famous people in different situations, including advertisements. This essay proposes an analysis of how IAG operates discourses in the advertising communication of a fashion brand, based on the study of the “Sunset Dream” campaign by the Mango brand. On a theoretical-methodological basis, we adopted Foucault (2008) aiming to understand the potential of IAG as a power mechanism that regulates and directs the meanings produced in fashion. The results indicate that the advertising campaign analyzed reflects three central discursive dimensions: (i) the maintenance of predominant aesthetic and sociocultural standards, (ii) the modification of elements in response to changes in consumer preferences and (iii) the creation of new discourses – within the context of the brand – linked to the technological innovation. We conclude that GAI, while reinforcing existing norms, has the potential to reorganize narratives, shaping perceptions of style and identity in the fashion system.

O artigo explora a produção de algodão no Brasil, com ênfase no cultivo orgânico como uma prática sustentável para desenvolvimento de vestuário e moda. Apesar da liderança global na produção, desafios como o uso excessivo de agrotóxicos incentivam transições para métodos mais sustentáveis. Entender a dinâmica da produção do algodão convencional e orgânico no Brasil e sua demanda pela indústria têxtil e como a indústria usa para fazer moda é o objetivo central do artigo. Para tanto, os procedimentos metodológicos basearam-se em revisão bibliográfica, análise de dados secundários e entrevista em uma empresa catarinense envolvida em uma iniciativa que promove o cultivo de algodão orgânico no estado da Paraíba. A pesquisa destaca a importância de equilibrar benefícios econômicos, responsabilidade social, preservação ambiental na transição para o algodão orgânico bem como o desenvolvimento de peças do vestuário com práticas cada vez mais sustentáveis para produção de uma moda mais consciente com as questões ambientais.

The present article conducted a systematic review on natural dyeing and its potential within the context of Brazilian biodiversity. The study explored the use of dye plants by traditional communities, highlighting the revival of ancestral knowledge and its contributions to sustainability in the textile industry. The methodology involved analyzing indexed publications from the Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases, applying rigorous selection and data analysis criteria. The results indicated that natural dyeing offers significant environmental and cultural advantages, reducing the chemical impact of conventional textile production and promoting the appreciation of artisanal practices. However, challenges such as the scarcity of cultivated dye plant species, difficulties in scaling production, and the lack of public policies to support the sector were identified as barriers to its growth. The research concludes that fostering natural dyeing in Brazil requires multidisciplinary efforts and investments in research and innovation to establish its large-scale application in sustainable design

Artigo - Wearable art e o sistema-moda enquanto produção de subjetividade

O artigo tem como objetivo explorar o potencial do movimento wearable art enquanto modelo de confecção de vestuário que promove a produção subjetiva. É pontuada a localização do objeto-roupa enquanto produto da cultura material e, portanto, ferramenta para o atendimento de necessidades humanas com base em Castilho (2009) e Squicciarino (1990). Também é observado o desvio de suas funções primárias devido ao alinhamento da moda ao sistema capitalista de produção, dentro de uma perspectiva pós-moderna (Bauman, 2021; Svendsen, 2010). Um breve panorama das inciativas contrárias ao modelo hegemônico de produção é apresentado, tendo em vista a exposição de linhas de pensamento alternativas, às quais a wearable art pode ser associada (Fletcher; Grose, 2011; Giwilt, 2020). São expostas as raízes históricas do movimento, bem como suas formas de manifestação. Por fim, discute-se em que medida a prática da artwear promove a produção de subjetividade, tanto do ponto de vista daquele que produz, quanto daquele que veste a peça.

Artigo - Arte e posicionamento estético-político em Thereza Simões e Cybèle Varela (1965-1970)

A arte de vanguarda brasileira dos anos 1960 teve o mérito de trazer à tona o experimentalismo estético afinado a questões de natureza social, articulando a prática e o discurso em torno dos neorrealismos ao comprometimento político. Isso se deu num contexto marcado, de um lado, por importantes transformações comportamentais de caráter progressista. De outro, por radical repressão imposta pela Ditadura Civil-Militar Brasileira. Nessa conjuntura, em meados daquela década, surgiram duas jovens artistas: Thereza Simões (1941-) e Cybèle Varela (1943-). Suas obras, apesar do diálogo com os neorrealismos internacionais, agregaram a estes a especificidade política e tropicalista brasileira. Somaram, assim, ao uso de técnicas e procedimentos novos, uma crítica corajosa ao establishment opressivo da ditadura, suportada por uma sociedade de consumo incipiente no Brasil, mas poderosa o bastante para legitimar o governo autoritário e inculcar passividade e alienação nos sujeitos.

Resenha - Entre Deusas e Bofetões: a costura em viés da moda invisível

Esta é a resenha do livro Moda: uma trama filosófica, de Guido Conrado (2024). A obra questiona os limites entre arte, consumo e política em alguns desdobres do capitalismo semiótico da era de consumo que vivemos. Articulando moda, ativismo e filosofia com humor e crítica, Conrado pensa a grife Daspu como uma marca de moda que nasce de modo explosivo, ainda que não tenha um produto, uma espécie de acontecimento estético e social. A resenha traz as provocações em filosofia da moda e cultura material despertadas pela leitura da obra. Desta forma, a investigação adentra temas como moda, linguagem, consumo simbólico e ações político-estéticas. A Daspu, emerge como trocadilho com a grife de luxo Daslu, usando a ironia, traz uma ruptura nos regimes estéticos tradicionais, expondo o poder das marcas imateriais e sua potência semiótica. Mais que vestuário, a Daspu, vinculada originalmente a ONG de prostitutas, Davida, encarna a luta por visibilidade de corpos marginalizados, como as trabalhadoras sexuais.
