Study of relation between school food and obesity

This present work analizes the distribution of obesity and overweight of students from the public schools from Juiz de Fora, MG, aiming to get information which can help some prevention strategies for the studied group. An Antropometric measurements evaluation and a survey were held to 480 students. The data was analyed using the EPI-INFO program, version 3.3.2. The age average of the studied population was of 10 years, while 50.4% of the individuals were female and 16.6% were classified as obese and overweight. Different preparations in the school food were verified in the school menus. It was shown that they were rich in carboydrates and sugar, but with a nutritional deficit. This research made it possible to beter classify the studied population, and also to focus on the racional use of time and public financial resources, proving the necessity of investing in eating education and in prevention strategies to help students' health problems e the same time turn it into a eating habit improvement.Downloads
