In this article we consider different editorial/auditing relationships that, in the first half of the 20th century, were involved in the recording of certain oralities, musicalities and performances in the singing, dancing and dramatic dances associated with the fiddle in Brazil. We will analyze listening literacy practices that produced the musical parameterizations and literary semantizations whose graphic (in)telligibility represented the sound of “illiterate fiddlers”, such as: Vilemão Trindade (heard by Mário de Andrade), Fabião das Queimadas (heard by Câmara Cascudo) and José Gerôncio (heard by Luiz Heitor Corrêa de Azevedo).
