Jongo is a traditional Afro-Brazilian cultural expression from the Southeast region of Brazil, which is a magical poetic element practiced from round dancing and responsorial singing. In this article we describe and analyze the jongo terreiro of the Congola I group, headed by Geneci Maria da Penha, Mestra Noinha, bringing it as a place of Afro-Brazilian memory in the city. The terreiro is mainly frequented by family, friends and neighbors, who are also part of the group, and is located in Campos dos Goytacazes, in the North of Rio de Janeiro, in the Parque Guarus neighborhood. For this discussion, we used bibliographical research and field research data from the dissertation undertaken within the scope of the Master's in Social Policies, where the theoretical and methodological pillars of Visual Anthropology were used, in the use of audiovisual resources in field research, along with the studies on Memory and Identity. In this way, we discuss from the concept of Place of Memory the cultural practices of jongo in Campos dos Goytacazes.
