This article to intend approach the notion of affects, in particular, love, conjugality and the modern family from the perspective of the French sociologist Émile Durkheim (1858-1917). Based on his basic concepts, I defend that to think about emotions in his work, we must consider his definition of morality. I note that the interpretations about marriage and the modern family, ideological institutions par excellence — carried out in their paradigmatic formulations on the “science of society” — contributed decisively to the debate on feelings to be detach from the hegemonic observations of psychology.
