Abstract

The present work has as its theme the impact of public policies on the social construction of masculinity, and analyze the way in which the normative and cultural contexts in which individuals are inserted become the beacons for the way in which gender notions will be interpreted, and consequently, masculinities. It is known that public health policies in the development of modern societies have always been the main instrument of state interference in the search for the control of the bodies and mentalities of the governed populations. The text that establishes the National Men's Health Policy is empirical and seeks to reflect on the way in which the Brazilian state apparatus acts as a regulatory agent for the conduct of the country's male population, establishing a limited subjective horizon for these men constitute themselves. It appears that the notion of autonomy in the construction of the subjective male universe would be more of a rhetorical resource than a properly implemented reality.
