Resumen

Although common to several figures, the anthroponym Cornutus also belonged to the renowned Byzantine didactic, grammarian, writer, and literary critic. The available translation attributed to (Ps.) Lucius Annaeus Cornutus, Epitome of Greek Theological Traditions is here preceded by some summary considerations. Several aspects are analyzed, such as fonts, style, and transmission of the book. The stoic philosopher of the first century AD extends his etymological exposition and allegorical examination of gods and traditional Greek mythology to various cultural aspects, such as exegesis of traditional Greek mythology, Hellenization(s), language, religion, philosophy(-ies), education. This ethical opusculum is not based on linguistic naturalism. It conveys more than one etymology, referring to the insights of ancient poets expressed in the form of mythological stories. For now, the considerations regarding Cornutus and this work translated into Portuguese is sectioned in two portions. This number of Rónai only presents the first part of the translation.
